Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach that harmonizes the principles of both Eastern and Western philosophies in mental health care. It embraces conventional psychiatric treatments rooted in Western medicine while incorporating complementary practices from Eastern traditions, such as mindfulness, acupuncture, herbal remedies, and yoga. As a medical doctor, my training in Western medicine equips me with a solid foundation in traditional psychiatric care. However, my specialization in holistic practices enables me to offer a comprehensive approach, leveraging both worlds to optimize mental health outcomes. I integrate evidence-based treatments with holistic modalities, ensuring a personalized and balanced approach tailored to each individual’s unique needs, fostering holistic well-being for mind, body, and spirit.
Integrative clinicians use the best of what Western medicine offers alongside evidence-based alternative therapies (like supplements, plant medicine, mindfulness, diet and exercise practices).
Alternative healers do not practice Western medicine, and cannot prescribed FDA- approved pharmaceutical medications. In the United States, the practice of of Western medicine so requires graduation from am accredited medical school as well as a license to practice medicine.
No, absolutely not. Integrative psychiatry does not mean anti-medication.
Integrative psychiatry embodies a comprehensive approach that incorporates a range of therapeutic modalities, including medication when necessary. The goal is to harmonize conventional psychiatric treatments with complementary and alternative approaches, ensuring a holistic and individualized approach to mental health.
Yes, I can help people who want to stop their medications, reduce their dose, or simplify their medication regimen. If I think it will do more harm than good, I will explain why. I can specifically help with reducing the overall side effect burden of stopping antidepressant medications, in a safe, effective manner.
Frequency will depend on the nature and severity of your symptoms. It is most common for us to meet biweekly or monthly for the first 3-6 months of treatment and then to meet every 3 months following that. I have the flexibility to meet more frequently in the beginning of treatment if that is indicated and/or desired.
I am out-of-network for all insurance companies. That said, you may be reimbursed by your insurance company for some or all of my session fees. Some of my clients are reimbursed 100%, others not at all. For many it’s something like 50-80% after meeting their plan deductible. The specifics depend on the insurance plan.
I utilize Reimbursify, which allows me to verify your out-of-network eligibility, submit the claim to your insurance on your behalf, and provide a superbill for insurance.
To find out for sure, I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking: Do I have out of network coverage for psychiatry? If so, is there a deductible? If there’s a deductible, have I met it? What percentage of fees will be covered? What is the allowable amount for codes 99204, 99205, 99213, 99214, 90833, 90836, 90838?
I do not offer a sliding scale or discounted rates. My fees are the same for all patients.
